Karon, Phuket, Thailand. "My friend in France advised me that it was easy to pretend you had been robbed in Thailand and to get away with it,". Said Marc Lucien Forestier who earlier fabricated robbery to cover-up squandering on his trip.

April 12, 2013. Frenchman Marc Lucien Forestier went to the Karon Police Station and reported to that soon after he made an ATM withdrawal, the 20,000 baht (approx $605 USD) cash was snatched along with important official documents by two thieves who escaped on a motorbike.

Police investigated but even though the ATM area is a busy one, officers found no witnesses to the crime. CCTV footage also did not corroborate the Frenchman's account of events. Police re-interviewed Marc Forestier and he eventually confessed that he was afraid his wife would be angry with him for lavishing funds in Thailand, so he fabricated the robbery. He also put his confession in writing.

In the interview with police he also mentioned that his friend in France had encouraged him to lie, that it was easy to get away with it.

April 15, 2013. Phuket Provincial Court. 54 year-old Marc Lucien Forestier was fined 3,000 baht.

April 16, 2013. French fictim Marc Lucien Forestier was deported from Thailand. A very small price to pay for being an ******e, and most importantly for tarnishing another country's tourism reputation.
