New Delhi, India. Bitter woman with the same name as a politician goes running to the police and falsely accuses her ex of rape, leading to the death of an innocent woman.

March 2018. Having been dumped by her boyfriend after his parents introduced him to someone he liked, Geeta Jain went to the New Delhi police and reported her ex for rape. According to Geeta Jain, 18 months of consensual sex becomes rape if procured under false promises of marriage. Despite the idiotic nature of the allegations, police swooped in and arrested the innocent man. He lost his job and his fiancee refused to marry him after the allegations were released. Even worse, his mother had a heart attack and died soon after. All because of the fictim.

January 2019. The supreme court ruled that consensual sex under the pretext of marriage is not rape. Thanks to this, the allegations made by Geeta Jain were discredited. Or maybe that was just because she couldn't be bothered to turn up to hearings. You decide.

The Guardian reports that according to the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 38,947 rape cases were reported in India in 2016. In 10,068 cases (about 25%) the women claimed it was rape on false promise of marriage. In Andhra Pradesh state alone, 45% of all rape cases filed in the past two years fell into the false marriage category. Worth a ponder in addition to the fact that India is well on its way to becoming the world's most populous country. So, who are the so-called "rape victims"?

“When a relationship ends, women who have had consensual sex make false accusations of rape under promise of marriage out of vengefulness, to hurt the man. Or they do it to extort money out of him, promising to withdraw the charge if he gives them what they want,” according to a lawyer handling up to 90 of such cases.

In one instance, as reports The Guardian, the lawyer gestures discreetly to two families waiting on the other side of the glass partition. “The girl’s family has agreed to withdraw the charge in return for 500,000 rupees (Approx. £5,400 or $7,050),” he said. “Tell me, would any parent settle for money rather than justice if she’s really been raped?”. Hold that thought!
